In a recent interview with Pope Francis, he was asked by a Swiss reporter his position on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, particularly regarding the debate over whether or not Ukraine should surrender to Russia. He emphasized the need for negotiations and referred to the courage of waving the white flag, which has brought many international reactions and raised questions regarding the role of the Vatican in international conflicts. This brings us to our own questions of how we got here, and where we may be heading next?

Baseball has been known as America’s Pastime since its creation, bringing people together across the nation to root for their favorite teams in tournaments such as the World Series and World Baseball Classic. However, the game’s international popularity has been increasing dramatically, prompting discussions regarding how sports and international politics intersect. We may be seeing a shift of America’s pastime becoming a global one, which brings us to the questions of how did we get here, and where we may be heading next?

With the US primary elections in full swing and many interesting candidates to be aware of, the United States has become a point of interest for many. Being a key player in many organizations and conflicts around the world, the results of the Presidential election could significantly shake up the international stage regarding how the United States’ affiliations and actions may shift. With eyes turned to observe the success of different candidates, this brings us to the questions of how we got here, and where we may be heading next?

Ukrainian leadership has been shaken up as President Volodymry Zelensky removed his top general,Valery Zaluzhny, which has been marked as the largest shift in command since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. This has come at a time of high tensions as Russian attacks have intensified and Ukraine is grappling with a failed counteroffensive that took place late last year. The interest of many has been piqued as questions arise regarding Ukraine’s future success in the war. That brings us to our own questions of how we got here, and where we may be heading next?

On January 13th, Lai Ching-te was elected the new President of Taiwan. This election and his victory has come in the midst of an ongoing risk of conflict with China over military threats of invasion and an ongoing dispute over territorial claims in the South China Sea. Tensions between democratic Taiwan and Communist China have been high since the 1950s and conversations around the election put these concerns at the center of politics in Taiwan. The election has also included a shift in Parliament seats that will no doubt result in new challenges in Taiwan’s legislative process. This brings us to the questions of how did we get here, and where we may be heading next?

Following up on the four months of violence in the Gaza Strip, the world has seen increased disaster for Palestinians in Gaza and around the world. Famine, illness, and increased mortality rates have persisted since the initial ground invasion in October, with concerns that the situation will continue to worsen. There have been multiple developments including accusations brought to international courts, progress towards hostage negotiations, increased media coverage from Palestinians in Gaza, and protests around the world. Professor Dr. Birgitta Dresp-Langley is a director of research at the National Center of Scientific Research with extensive experience regarding Artificial Intelligence. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises on the international stage as a record 6.9 million people are displaced from their homes, forcing them to seek asylum across Africa. This comes in the wake of conflicts between armed groups, human rights violations, and intense gender-based violence. Since March of 2022, tensions have risen considerably, leading to the increased vulnerability of populations throughout the country, which brings us to the questions of how we got here, and where we may be heading next?
