For the first time in 4 years, North Korean president, Kim Jong Un has traveled outside the country for a summit between Russia and North Korea, hosted by Vladimir Putin to discuss trade and connections within the region and how that affects their respective countries. This has caught the attention of the West as it could lead to further developments in relations between the two nations, which could greatly impact the current war in Ukraine. That brings us to the questions of how we got here, and where we may be heading next.

Mexican Supreme Court Legalizes Abortion

The Mexican Supreme Court has recently attracted much attention as they’ve officially ruled to decriminalize abortion federally, finding that the current ruling regarding the procedure is unconstitutional. This progressive step has provided a strong base for abortion activists throughout the country, though not without contention in the population. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently pledged to temporarily pause his judicial reforms due to wide-spread public resistance fearful of a slide towards a more autocratic Israel. Love is Love, but is it Legal? Same Sex Marriage Hearings in India

Currently, India’s Supreme Court has been holding hearings for historic cases regarding the legalization of same-sex marriage and other rights for LGBTQ+ citizens. These petitions are actively opposed by India’s ruling government and religious authorities. The approval of these petitions could set a new precedent for LGBTQ+ rights in Southeast Asia, and we discuss the potential ramifications for both India and the region as a whole.
