When former Facebook engineer Frances Haugen broke ranks and leaked a trove of internal company documents, the embattled social media giant found itself yet again in hot water and the public's disgrace. The documents reveal, among other things, awareness among Facebook leadership that its platform negatively impacts the mental health of some of its youngest users while being used to host hate speech and spread misinformation. The leak set off a firestorm, with many politicians and activists calling for new regulations and action from the company.
Join the Global Current today as we dissect the leak and the public reaction with Analysts Jackie Ballard and Kasia Kostraba. Afterward, News Briefer Sydney Dyer recaps some of the most pressing stories from around the world this week.
