Sunday Sep 22, 2024
This week of The Global Current we covered the Taliban’s newly imposed law that prohibits women from speaking in public. Our analysts, Addison Cook-Gibbs and Isabella Laor, discussed this issue. In this episode, we focus on how the Taliban controls Afghanistan, how women have been treated under this rule, and how Sharia Law comes into play. We see other perspectives around the world in regards to this Law, and what reactions have come from it. The news briefer, Ava Lynch, talked about the US considering allowing Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russia, the US providing military aid to Egypt despite continued human-rights controversy, the United Arab Emirates accused of prolonging the war in Sudan, and Top Wall Street financial institutions begin to limit entry-level bankers’ hours. Catch you on the waves next week!
