Currently, India’s Supreme Court has been holding hearings for historic cases regarding the legalization of same-sex marriage and other rights for LGBTQ+ citizens. These petitions are actively opposed by India’s ruling government and religious authorities. The approval of these petitions could set a new precedent for LGBTQ+ rights in Southeast Asia, and we discuss the potential ramifications for both India and the region as a whole.
