Recently, European countries' leaders have been making unforeseen steps to acknowledge their history of colonization, particularly in Africa. Some leaders have made public statements, and others have arranged trips throughout the continent to express their sentiments, putting conversations about reparations at the forefront of international politics. This has raised questions regarding the impacts of European colonialism in Africa and its legacy, which brings us to ask how we got here, and where we may be heading next.
