This week of The Global Current we had a discussion viewing the pro and anti side of assisted suicide, specifically following the story of an American woman in Switzerland who was the first to use an assisted suicide pod. Our analysts Riely Gonzalez and Willem Akian discussed this issue. Both analysts looked at different perspectives of the situation at hand. Willem focused on the reasoning that may support assisted suicide and the logic behind it. Riely outlined the opposing side, explaining the reasoning against assisted suicide. The news briefer, Lily Hudock, talked about Thailand legalizing same-sex marriage, Spain and Mexico’s strained relations, and the First Millennial Saint for the Catholic Church. This week of The Global Current we covered the Taliban’s newly imposed law that prohibits women from speaking in public. Our analysts, Addison Cook-Gibbs and Isabella Laor, discussed this issue. In this episode, we focus on how the Taliban controls Afghanistan, how women have been treated under this rule, and how Sharia Law comes into play. It has now been over a year since the civil war broke out in Sudan due to rivalries between two factions of the military government, the SAF and RFS. This conflict has brought to light the history of foreign invasions, ethnic tensions, disputes over religion and resources that have been historical factors in Sudanese conflicts. As of now, Sudan is also facing a deepening humanitarian crisis alongside increasing violence. Our analysts this week are Aya and Khadega, and the news briefer is Nadia!

An airstrike was carried out by Israeli forces on Iran's Embassy in Syria’s capital city: Damascus. It’s been reported that three senior commanders and four officers, who were part of overseeing covert operations in the Middle East, were killed in the strike. This has brought the continually increasing tensions throughout the Middle East and long-standing conflicts to light as Israeli forces maintain their presence in Gaza and more states in the region become involved in the conflict. This brings us to our own questions of how did we get here, and where we may be heading next?
